Like a Rolling Stone
is the story of a debutante who becomes a loner when she falls out of high society.  It’s a crushing blow,  but there is an upside:   when you got nothing,  you got nothing to lose.  Another advantage to being on your own:  when you’re invisible,  you have no secrets to reveal.
Those who love Dylan were not surprised when he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Dylan fans lost their minds with delight, while defenders of the sanctity of high culture  dropped the
ir jaws and tried to protest in those voices that sounded like their teeth were superglued together.  Alas,  some journalists opined that we should think about it like this:   In Shakespeare’s moment in time,  his plays were today’s
Breaking Bad
and Mozart was today’s Freddie Mercury’s heart-stopping performance at the Aids Concert.
Bob Dylan created a paradigm shift in cultural change in America.   I was in Vietnam and I didn’t like it one damned bit when I returned to Travis Air Force Base in San Francisco,  but that was then.   I became a rock DJ and then transitioned into eventually becoming a network broadcast journalist who had a different perspective of life at large.   I adore Bob Dylan and his namesake,  Irish poet,  Dylan Thomas. Radio stations - by and large - did not like the idea of playing a 6-minute and 13-second record on the air.  Too long,  and that alone kept .....
