    Maker
    : This gorgeous antique salad plate is by the renowned English ceramics firm Minton. It has an impressed Mintons mark that came into use in 1871 and an unclear impressed date cypher.
    Design and age
    : The pattern is called Cuckoo and the red handwritten pattern number 3934 appears on the reverse. Cuckoo was produced in various forms as early as 1845 and as recently as 1970. On the basis of the impressed mark and the absence of the word England or the phrase "Made in England", this plate is from the earlier part of that broad range.
    Condition
    : The plate has no nicks, chips, cracks, stains, repairs or significant wear. It has several faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light.
    Size and weight
    : The plate is 8 inches wide and weighs 12.5 ounces.
